OUTDOOR LIVING

By Daniel Keeley

Relax in Warm Outdoor Spaces with the Pantone Color of the Year

I love a good word, especially if it pertains to the garden. Well, I recently learned a particularly great garden-related word: psithurism. It describes the rustling sound we hear as the wind blows through leaves on trees. Just the thought of it transports me to a beautiful outdoor world full of rich textures and sensory pleasures — perhaps a park in Paris where I am enjoying a delicious ice cream or a crisp glass of wine.

These very sensations are the inspiration for this year’s Pantone Color of the Year: Mocha Mousse, which the institute describes as “a warming, brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial warmth extends further into our desire for comfort and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.” And, isn’t that exactly what we want out of our gardens and outdoor living spaces? I’d say, “Yes!” So, to help you whip up your own “mousse-tastic” designs, we have curated the following collection of outdoor living items — all in earthy, mocha hues.
